Information
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) form part of a group of compounds found in raw fruits and vegetables and selectively support the growth of beneficial bacteria.

FOS are considered as a "pre-biotic" (or prebiotic / prebiotics) as they selectively support the growth of probiotics (beneficial bacteria) - especially bifidobacteria. They can be viewed as a food source for these bacteria.
FOS are technically a soluble fibre because the body cannot digest them.
FOS encourage muscular contractions of the bowel and thus help to accelerate bowel movements. It acts as a bulking agent in the bowel.

FOS can be used as effective sweeteners, being approximately half as sweet as table sugar (sucrose).

NOTE: FOS do not encourage the growth of Candida albicans or other yeast organisms so may be used in conjunction with a yeast reduction programme.

Recommended Intake
One tablespoon (approx 10g) sprinkled on cereal, fresh fruit or blended into yoghurt or fruit juice daily or as professionally directed.
NB. This product can initially cause wind and bloating.
